People Spotlight: Jonathan Wong
Jonathan Wong leads Microsoft’s first-party apps and services marketing across Asia Pacific, and is the creator of Katsu News, a site that aggregates all the hottest Japanese anime, otaku and pop culture news from around the web.
When he’s not trying to spread the good word about Windows and Windows Phone apps, Jonathan spends his time surfing the web, watching videos and occasionally playing some games on his Surface RT and Lumia 920.
Naturally, Jonathan knows all there is to know about apps, so we’ve picked his brains on the must-haves for every festive season.
When asked which three apps he relies on for his festive planning, he replied without missing a beat:
• Foursquare – “Very beautiful app to discover and find interesting new places in Singapore to visit and to eat.”
• Instructables – “It’s a great app to learn how to do things yourself. Very useful to learn how to build and make fun decorations for the house!”
• Kindle – “I’m planning to catch up on a lot of reading, so I will be immersed in my Kindle app a lot!”
As someone who leads marketing for a variety of apps, we’re sure Jonathan tries his best to avoid choosing favorites. But if he absolutely had to choose three, which ones would he pick?
“There are tonnes of great apps to choose from, but if you ask me for my absolute favourite apps at the moment, I will go with Netxgen Reader, 6tag, and MetroTube,” Jonathan says.
A news reader for a quick glance at the headlines, an Instagram client to capture precious holiday moments, and a YouTube client that lets you share your home videos – we couldn’t agree more with Jonathan’s list!
All three of Jonathan’s currently favourite apps are featured below, so go ahead, download them and give them a spin!
One of the first full-featured Instagram clients for Windows Phone, 6tag offers all of Instagram’s functionality, plus a few unique features of its own. For example, 6tag supports multiple account log-ins, and the creation of photo montages.
Nextgen Reader is a fast, clean and beautiful RSS reader for Windows Phone and Windows 8 with a ton of customization options. Quickly skim through the latest headlines in an uncluttered interface so you can stay in the loop even as you kick back on the couch.
